Frederick Hart's Chesley

Photographed in winter using both digital and film mediums, this home in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia was designed and built by the historically renowned American sculptor Frederick Hart. Several of Hart’s original sculptures remain in the home, offering a rare glimpse into his creative legacy. Widely known for his figurative work in bronze and acrylic, Hart was a vital voice in the revival of classical sculpture in the late 20th century. His major commissions include Ex Nihilo (Out of Nothing) at the Washington National Cathedral and the Three Soldiers statue at the Vietnam Veterans Memorial. The resulting images aim to amplify the enduring presence of Hart’s vision, as expressed in the the only home he ever owned.
